Novaris SL485-EC90 Plug-In Signal Line Surge Protector

The Novaris SL485-EC90 is a slimline, multi-stage plug-in signal line surge protection device (SPD) engineered specifically to safeguard high-speed RS-485 serial data circuits, fieldbus telemetry networks, and SCADA monitoring lines. Optimized for low-voltage differential signaling, it combines primary Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) technology with secondary high-speed semiconductor clamping diodes to limit destructive transient overvoltages from lightning strikes, ground potential rises, and inductive switching surges.

Featuring a two-piece pluggable design, the SL485-EC90 allows the active protection module to be removed and replaced without disconnecting field wiring, ensuring uninterrupted circuit continuity during testing or maintenance. The -EC90 designation indicates an integrated 90V GDT earthing base. This configuration isolates the cable shield/screen from direct earth under normal conditions to eliminate stray ground loops, while instantly bonding the shield to earth during high-energy transient surge events.

Key Features

  • RS-485 Optimized Protection: Low clamping voltage tuned for 5V - 8V differential data networks without signal distortion.

  • Pluggable Base & Cartridge Module: Allows quick module replacement during servicing without disturbing panel wiring or breaking loop connections.

  • -EC90 Earth Loop Isolation Base: Uses a 90V GDT in the ground leg to prevent noise-inducing ground loops while maintaining transient equipotential bonding.

  • Multi-Stage Hybrid Architecture: Integrates primary high-energy GDTs with series coordinating impedances and fast-acting transient voltage suppression diodes.

  • Slimline 7 mm Profile: High-density DIN-rail mounting profile maximizes panel space utilization in tight control enclosures.
